One Man,Two Guvnors
By Richard Bean (based on the The Servant of Two Masters) with songs by Grant Olding
directed by Keely Enright
Welcome to swingin’ England. Sex, food and money are high on the agenda in this English version of a classic Italian comedy. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small-time East End hood, but Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis takes a second job with Stanley who is hiding from the police and waiting to be reunited with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Easy, right? Inspired insanity, high-low antics, and nimble wordplay ensue—all backed by live musicians paying homage to rockabilly and a certain Fab Four. Join Francis in the fun as he leads you through this topsy-turvy world of love triangles and mistaken identities. It’s more than a sassy update of Carlo Goldoni’s classic knee-slapper. It’s a brilliantly delicious mash-up of splendid comedy, British pantomime, and music-hall revues.
